CCWA board has new idea to build membership
March 2011 - The CCWA Board met on Feb 13 at the CC Yacht Club to plan a club
meeting to discuss and vote on expanding
CCWA
to include other boardsport enthusiasts, including surfers and
kiteboarders, in the club and renaming it the "Corpus Christi
Watersports Association."
The idea was borne from the realization that the club is dwindling
in members and participation. So branching out to include a wider
range of watersports, other than just windsurfing, is the solution
the board is bringing forward, to prevent the club from folding.
It would include more people, raise our memberships and expand our
possibilities.
MEETING TO VOTE ON NEW NAME
Since changing the name of CCWA would require approval of the
membership, the board will be scheduling a club meeting for all members
soon. We'll start with a social and dinner, then move
on into the meeting, calling for a vote on the name change
decision. Current dues must be paid in order to vote. You can pay
dues up to beginning of meeting. Also, we'll have CCWA Tshirts for
sale at a special price of $10 for members ($15 non-members). STAY
TUNED FOR MEETING DATE, TIME & LOCATION.

Robertson discusses conflicts with bay group

Carrie Robertson, left,
represented CCWA at the bays workshop.
January 2011 - CCWA's webmaster Carrie Robertson represented area windsurfers
during the "Challenges To Sharing and Conserving Our Bays" workshop organized by
Costal Bays Bend Foundation
at the Harte Research Institute Jan 7-8. The event brought bay users of all kinds together to discuss best practices
and to recommend to government regulators ideas for protecting resources. She told the crowd
of mostly fishermen and hunters that launch access was important to the windsurfing community.
She also told them that, despite occasional user conflicts among windsurfers, fishermen and kiteboarders, there are generally
very few problems in bay waters. She said that the few conflicts that do exist are usually on the Gulf beaches where
favorite wave breaks draw various users groups to one specific area,
which causes congestion and competition for waves.

Oleander Cleanup takes place in
rain, cold
January 2011 - Commodore Chip Ducrest and
six other volunteers (Philippe and Florence Tissot, Amelia
Everett, Adlai Niggebrugge, Michael Williamson and Alissa Inman)
conducted a clean up at Oleander Point on January 15. Chip provided tacos and coffee in the
parking lot and the workers didn't let the cold and rain stop them. CCWA adopted the popular windsurfing launch through the City's
Adopt A Park program and will be conducting cleanups throughout
the year.

brought their kids!
The CCWA Christmas party took place on December 3 at
Vice Commodore Enes' house. CCWA provided the turkey and members
brought desserts
and side dishes. The existing CCWA officers
were re-elected during the party.
